ABOUT

Singing since the age of seven, tenor Hector Dario Gonzalez Aguirre has a very rich and diverse background in music that ranges from singing Salsa/Pop music to performing arias by Mozart. A student in the Artist Diploma Program at the Vancouver Academy of Music, Hector Dario is currently taking part in the premiere performance in Canada of the Song Cycle Elegies by William Finn in which he will be performing several solos.

Hector Dario has been passionate about music from a young age taking piano lessons at the age of nine and continuing through high school and university while at the same time also singing, composing and recording music for his colleagues. At the start, Hector Dario only focused on Latin jazz and pop music and it was not until he began his post-secondary studies in music at Capilano University that he discovered his great love for Opera and Choral Music where he graduated with honors. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of British Columbia where his primary focus was in voice performance and composition. In addition, he holds a Music Technology Certificate from Douglas College where he specialized in audio recording/editing/mixing as well as music composition for film and TV.

Hector Dario has had the privilege of studying under baritone George Roberts and tenor Craig Tompkins, and is currently studying under Joslin Romphf Dennis with whom he has made many discoveries in dramatic interpretation and expression. Some of Hector Dario’s other notable experiences include performing works from Handel’s Messiah at the University of Capilano Recital Hall to singing in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver. In addition, he has performed in numerous festivals in Vancouver including the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, Latino Soy Festival, Trout Lake Latin Festival, Kaleidoscope Multicultural Festival, Victoria Drive BIA Summer Multicultural Festival and Dia Alegre Festival. Hector Dario’s voice performance career has not kept him from continuing to pursue his love for composition/songwriting and he has composed numerous piano, instrumental and choir pieces. He has also released two singles “Let’s Burn the Dance Floor” and “Baila Conmigo” for digital retailers such as iTunes and Spotify.
