** I PLAY PROGRESSIVE METAL, NOT HEAVY METAL **
(Sorry, I just wanted to get that out there because the options that you can choose to disply on this site are extremely vague.)
Hi, my name is Cole Janzen. I am 18 years old and I have been playing guitar since the age of 10, giving me 8 years of experience.
I am currently enrolled in St. Lawrence College's Music and Digital Media program and plan to go onward to Queen's University for music theory.
I am very interested in creating music that would be something like a fuse of Melodic Death Metal and Progressive.

Influences
I am heavily influenced by progressive metal artists such as Veil of Maya and Periphery, as well as Opeth and some Between the Buried and Me. It bother's me that BTBaM's band name is grammatically incorrect but I also find the Paul Waggoner's guitar playing makes up for it :)
Others that I am highly influenced are All That Remains/Oli Herbert, Children of Bodom, and generally the entire idea of Melodic Death metal.
EQUIPMENT
I am currently playing and ESP LTD MH-300 with a DiMarzio D-Activator in the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck as well as an ESP LTD MH-401qmnt with active EMGs. My amp, for the moment, is a Crate VFX 5212 (Dual speakers) tube amp, and I like to put my guitar through an Ibanez Tubescreamer (No, unfortunatley not the TS9).
I hope to acquire an 8 string guitar within the future.
