ABOUT

I am looking to join or join in forming a pro-oriented, but part-time, group of musicians in the GTA.
I play guitar (lead or rhythm), some keyboards, and have good vocals (have taken vocal lessons from Micah Barnes of the Nylons) & all equipment needed (including PA & lights). Will consider bass (but you’d have to be patient while I adapt!). I’ve played professionally and semi-professionally since my teens, toured with Gaslight in the 1970’s, and since then have worked with a number of groups and recording projects. SOCAN member. Recording credits include writing, producing and playing guitar & keyboards on Trollie’s 1986 album, “Cruisin’”, and Major Hooples' latest single "Sunnyside" (2012). For the last eight years I have been a member of Major Hooples Boarding House but this project has now disbanded, and I would like to work with GTA musicians. Please note that I have a full-time “regular” career so I can’t work full time…now…maybe when I retire!
What genre? I would prefer a Rhythm & Blues/Blues/Classic rock-type band. Like eighties music too, and can handle some synth duties for this. Also love jazz, but cannot claim to be a jazz guitarist! Not big on modern country, but would consider traditional country swing (like Asleep @TW). Have played it all, so I’m not very interested in the “same old/same old” classic rock…if it’s classic rock I want to do something innovative, unusual yet commercial. No “Smoke on the Water/Walk this Way/Taking Care of Business” type bands lol!! (Audiences are just as sick of hearing these tunes as bands are of playing them!) Perhaps an All-Canadian Tribute…there would be so many great tunes possible with that theme!
Not interested in jam-bands or basement groups. I’m looking for people who want to play gigs at a professional level with tight arrangements, tasty licks, and good stage presence.
I’m on withdrawal from the AFM, but will rejoin if needed.
If some of this sounds inflexible, I just don’t want to lead anyone on. If I’m right for your band (or forming a band with me) you’ll understand my sentiments. Attitude is FAR more important than your musicianship…the best bands I’ve been in were not the ones filled with virtuosos…they were filled with hard-working, dedicated and upbeat musicians at all levels of musical achievement. Some experience (and definitely good equipment) is a good thing, too.

Thanks for reading!! Drop me a line if you need someone like me in your group, or you’re interested in forming one!!
