Calvin Kitchen aka C Dot, was born in Detroit Michigan, where his life as a young man started to take off and experience things that most suburban kids would find rather odd, outlandish and out right shameful. Like most children of the inner cities Calvin grew up in a single parent home, but unlike most children Calvin had the advantage and grew up under the wing of his father.

C found himself at a young age experimenting with various artists in the 80′s era of Hip-Hop, but it was the Legendary Easy-E that broke the ice for Calvin and brightened his interest into the element of emceeing. He always strived and developed an interest for the hustle of Hip-Hop, and it seemed his placement in the streets complimented his lively hood on the mic.

With his father quickly realizing the harsh reality Detroit brought to the people, he decided to pick up his family and belongings and set forth north of the boarder to a quit area called Chatham-Kent, Ontario / Canada. It was around the time of the ninth grade, when Calvin and his family arrived in this small metropolitan that seem to have the same outfit on as Detroit. The people, the attitude, the hardship was all a familiar walk of life to him.

Throughout his experience in life, Calvin would always find hardship. If it wasn’t while grossing in the streets, dealing with day to day stress or while concurring growing pains, life always seemed to be unsettled unless he was behind a mic developing music, and his craft.

While roaming the local scene with his brother, battling, showcasing and delivering lethal verbal back hands. C Dot was soon gathering a name for himself and was ready to conquer all barriers the music industry had to offer. It was his cousin Qaso from the D (Detroit), that allowed Calvin get an inside scoop on how the operations of a record label worked and how engineers maneuvered around pro tools, and mixing boards.

03′ formally introduced Calvin C-Dot Kitchen and Garrett VanDusen together on a more industry level. With a growing arrangement in a college town strip club, Mr. VanDusen had developed a rendition of the Freestyle Friday’s (Popular segment on BET’s 106 & Park). Emcees from all sectors of Ontario and Michigan would congregate to this arrangement, and this is where C-Dot started to reveal his master-craft. 2 time Battle Champion, in a 2 year span, holding down top spot with 15 wins.

06′ was the year that Calvin “C Dot” Kitchen joined forces with industry hence-men Garrett VanDusen, and established the city of Chatham’s complete conglomerate of emcee’s that were starving for success. G.M.C. (Ghetto Musik Cartel) was formed, a collective of individuals with a Detroit heritage and a Chatham-Kent blue-print. Pulling all-nighters, craving the taste of stardom and the urge to break bread with the best of them, the group G.M.C. was the perfect complement to the streets of Chatham-Kent and all surrounding metropolitans.

The music from cranking from the made-shift studio like dope from a crack house, Garrett and Calvin sincerely thought they were onto something. With singles and mix tapes being released in 06′, and the group finding its niche in the local Hip-Hop scene, it was understood by all that Ghetto Musik Cartel was the next best thing next to slice white bread. Starting off with their first performance at the Banquet Hall, promoted and organized by their manager Mr. VanDusen. G.M.C. started showcasing their originality, showmanship and charisma, but it was C Dot that stood out amongst the pack and started to deliver that one, two punch for success.

Receiving the opportunity to open up for Jadakiss, Llyod Banks, D.O and Chuck Ice, Calvin was slowly but surely making competitive ground work amongst his peers. He has performed though-out various places in south-west Ontario, and with several showcases dating from 06′ – 10′. Now with a short hiatus away from performing, and separating himself from G.M.C. C Dot has taken the time to master his craft and develop his first solo project, ” Mo’ Bang for your Buck”, a mixture that is soon to drop mid-October. Backed by Live Vision, a corporation developed by longtime friend / manager Garrett VanDusen, and his associates Colette Chand, and Aaron Bhawan, C Dot now has the squad and backing to put forth a profitable effort in his career.
