They’ve been called “an intriguing blend of jazz, rock and pop”, in an age of Hip Hop and Techno and Blank White Page won’t cringe from any such descriptions. “We know what we are and we don’t try to be anything else. If we did we’d know it was a sell out and so would our fans. The song is what matters most to us” rants vocalist John Chappell. It doesn’t matter if they are playing live on Television or to a smoke filled club, this talented duo captivates audiences with their strong delivery of acoustic rhythms. Every song means something to them - and BWP are not afraid to let it all out on stage so the fans can feel every word. Mockler guitarist, is a native of Montreal, Quebec. Mockler began toying with the guitar at age 16, a late start for many but he quickly made it his passion and one minute after high school, joined his first band “Chandra”. By the age of 19 he had spent time at both McGill Conservatory and the school of the road. After a successful career in Montreal, Mockler decided to move to Southwestern Ontario to be closer to the scene in Toronto. While there, Mockler returned to writing and joined forces with current writing partner John Chappell. John Chappell made his first public performance at age 5. A native of London, Ontario Chappell sang professionally from the age of 19 when he joined Rock act Diamond Steel. Diamond Steel garnered the attention of Southwestern Ontario rock fans for 4 years including 2 Battle of the Band wins and a finalist spot in Radio FM96’s “On Track” competition. During this time John focused on his craft learning from some of the best singers of the day. “I knew if I was going to be successful in this business that I would have to study the craft of singing and not just wing it.” Chappell spent time as a solo act and in various other acts until 1998 when Chappell met Mockler and they formed Blank White Page. When Mockler and Chappell joined forces it was to record a project of fully acoustic numbers. This lead to today’s incarnation of Blank White Page. After just 6 months of writing Blank White Page decided to head to the studio. The sessions took place with the help of Jacob Recording artist and producer Shane Phillips. That summer the band worked on their unique brand of acoustic, jazz inspired rock and roll and later released their demo CD “Opening Statement”. Strong local support and a publishing deal followed. Soon after, the strength of the writing landed two songs on MTV’s hit teen drama “Live Through This”. The success of their acoustic effort made clear to the band that their type of stripped down music could find an audience. They began to play local London venues suited to the acoustic style and appeared on London’s A Channel television. The duo continue to write, record and perform multi-genre music from their extensive catalogue
