ABOUT

Known for projecting unique stories and perspectives over powerful and progressive beats, ART I MISS refines and defines the sound of hip hop with inspiring and unforgettable lyrics.

As a student of hip hop since age 6, his years growing up through a government housing project eventually influenced his rhymes and lifestyle. Raised by a single mother, grandmother, and two uncles, ART I MISS grew up surrounded by all genres of music. From his grandmother he remembers Kenny Rogers and Sam Cook. His mother, old school R&B and Dub. However, what left the most permanent of marks was his uncle’s interest in hip-hop.

With a shoebox full of original boom-bap era cassettes at his disposal, ART I MISS would steal and study this unique art form, disregarding the punishment he would endure had he been caught. The B-Boy style sported by his uncle also spawned his intrigue towards the esthetics of hip-hop culture.

At 16, feeling secluded from his surroundings, ART I MISS looked to Islam. Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian and Divine Styler eased his transition by incorporating the teachings of Islam into their music. ART I MISS no longer felt alone, finally realizing that his true desires lied within the foundations of self-expression through music and culture.

ART I MISS has been honing his craft alongside an up and coming producer from Connecticut, OPTIMUS PRYME. At the age of 18, OPTIMUS, coming from a fine arts background, began experimenting with sonic compositions that fused sounds of nature, industry, and technology with surreal percussion and melodic treats. With vast technical knowledge and a unique ear for music production and concepts, ART I MISS and OPTIMUS PRYME quickly discovered the possibilities that lie ahead. Soon after, they began working together and created a compelling fresh sound and image.

With new things constantly on the horizon, ART I MISS strives to create awareness on a larger scale. By reaching out to the crowds at notable venues such as The Docks, El Mocambo, Reverb and Riley’s, ART I MISS continues to steadily build a broader fan base.

ART I MISS and OPTIMUS PRYME have found a unique opportunity to combine their experiences and knowledge, creating a provocative fusion of hip hop, soul, drum & bass and electronic music that all walks of life can relate to.
