SEEKING
Band to Join, Vocalist - Tenor, Acoustic Guitar, Drums, Other Percussion, Keyboard, Piano, Other, Upright bass, DJ, Electronic Music.ABOUT
From Brooklyn, NYC and newly moved to Toronto. Seeking to form a band, or find people to jam with.
Vocalist, dancer, and visual artist...odd childhood of being a tiny acrobat in China, and moving to the U.S. where I got to compete in a few spoken word poetry slams across the country as a teenager. I practice aerial (circus - silks, lyra) and try to break dance on Wednesday nights at the Art Gallery of Ontario, by OCAD where I'm currently taking art classes to supplement a background in computer science.
I like experimental music, combined with performance art, and visual effects - MaxMSP, Processing. Love meeting people who aren't afraid of trying random things, and are curious about new technology, interactive theater, and have a punk/DIY attitude towards art/life.
Anomie is my dominatrix pseudonym, and I use that "welcome intro" for my freelance whippersnapper business...it's kinda like my jingle.
I'm primarily interested in meeting a drummer / percussionist who has some experience with producing beats electronically. I'd like to create an acoustic stripped-down duo (Wildbirds & Peacedrums style) - mixing spoken word poetry with singing, and perform this summer on the streets of Toronto.
I'm also curious to enter the neo-burlesque scene in Toronto, and looking for someone with a strong musical training background to collaborate with in writing some remixed twists on jazz standards/cabaret songs for live performances: a keyboard accompanist or upright bass player. Think: Dresden Dolls / Amanda Palmer with more of a jazz/blues influence.
One day, I'd like to compose and choregraph a pole dance musical, with strippers. Or start an electronica puppet-duet with a tenor dude, fusing together in perfect parallel fifths, like some kind of gender-nonconforming cyborg. I'm only half-kidding. I'd also be interested in starting an all-Asian grrrl punk band, where we can cover punked out versions of Korean sugar pop hits, and make fun of Canadians who can't tell us apart. BUT FOR NOW I'LL QUIT DAYDREAMING.
I was trained in classical and jazz singing, but also was in a riot grrrl inspired punk band in high school, so I have a pretty wide range. I'm new to the city, and just wanna meet people who are creating interesting things. I'd be open to meeting to hear/see if we can mesh...
I have some experience in electronic music production (Reason, Logic, Ableton) but am learning to be better with this. I also play piano/keyboard, and fumble with a synth. I have performed simple backup rhythm guitar/ukulele.
Let's meet up and just play!
