ABOUT

Once upon a time...

Where the dark meets the enlightenment, that's where you'll find 5th Projekt, constantly grappling with the sturm und drang, the external and internal, the knowledge and ignorance, the yin and yang, searching for Circadian balance, slaves to Circadian rhythm, the internal body clock that informs the daily cycles of all living things and the universe in which we coexist.

In 2003, disparate souls converged over a kindred musical spirit and 5th Projekt materialized with their offering of idyllic, cinematic rock. Collectively, they share a musical sensibility that has resulted in a recent nomination for Best International Artist at the 2007 Orange County Music Awards in California, a feature on CBC television's 'Sounds Like Summer' music series, a Best Alternative Song nomination for "Distraktid" in the 2006 Just Plain Folks Awards in California, a nomination for Best Alternative Artist at the Toronto Independent Music Awards and invitations to CMW, NXNE, Indie Week Toronto & the ROCKRGRL Conference in Seattle. The songs "Skepticosm" and "In a Coma" have been featured on the Anti-Hit List, a very influential "Alternate Top 10" compiled by music writer John Sakamoto. 5th Projekt was also featured on CBC Radio DJ Sook-Yin Lee's Definitely Not the Opera as Independent Artist of the Week. Their new release, 'Circadian' debuted at number 5 on CIUT FM and ranked on Canada's !earshot Top 100 (October 2006). The band is currently scheduling a tour of Ontario which will begin this March to support the album.

It was a deep interest in the effects of cycles and in the ways human individual rhythms interact with nature that ignited 5th Projekt's debut album CiRCADiAN. Recorded at Toronto's Chemical Sound with James Heidebrecht (Daniel Lanois, Sarah Slean, Sloan) and mixed by Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Charlotte Martin), the album takes on the themes of balance and discovery.

The journey begins "In A Coma," setting the pace for the dreamlike lyrical exploration and the atmospheric compositions that characterize the album. The goal of the album is to capture humanity in all its diverse facets. The images that the music invokes are as various as the individuals who listen.

In "One to Throw Away," the central theme of disdain for the blatant disregard of ecosystems, both within ourselves and in the world around us, comes to light while the music paints a backdrop of darkness.

As the multi-layered "Resistance" tells us "they appear as quickly as they escape, these dreams and revelations." And so do the images conjured up by the songs, elusive as déjà vu. If any of it rings true or strikes a chord in the psyche of any one listener, then CiRCADiAN's cycle is complete.

About the band:

Tara Rice (voice, guitar, words and programming)
Tara's solo album "Face" won her a nomination for Best Folk Singer/Songwriter at the international Independent Music Awards in 2003. As a sixth project, she is currently contributing to LADNA (Los Angeles Digital Noise Academy), a digital music collective founded by Ken Andrews. She proudly displays her World Explorers Club certificate on the wall of her office.

Peter Broadley (bass)
Peter has played with Blue Is The New Beige and The Leaving Projekt and is known amongst Mr. Bungle enthusiasts for his bass transcriptions. His father wrote a song for the 70s rock band Bread but no one can remember what it was called. (Ahhhh the 70s)

Scott Honsberger (percussion, acoustic & electronic drums)
Scott has been involved with rhythm for the better part of his life, as evidenced by the growing number of traditional and modern percussion pieces stacked around his home. He honed his live drumming skills gigging with Toronto band Afflatus as well as partaking in the odd slightly inebriated campsite drum-off.

Skodt D. McNalty (guitar, voice, words and programming).
Skodt's earlier bands were Knell, 3rd Day Induction and The Leaving Projekt. He continues to collaborate with DJ/producer Noel Nanton (FU.CHA CUL.CHA, Honcho's Music, UK) and is also currently contributing to the LADNA collective. He is a co-founding member of the artist collective Repless Abandon. Skodt likes imported beer and cheese.
